Customize Blog Module Size with ScrollBar

Customize Blog Module Size with ScrollBar

By using the code below you will be able to compress all of your blog entries into a size of 300 px and there is a scrollbar on the side and your blog module. Keep reading to change the Size and the transparent background of your blog.

Feel free to click the link below to visit "OsKaRs PlAyGrOuNd" to see an example of this code in use.

  1. Create a new Blog entry
  2. Click on the HTML button in the blog editing tools

  3. And enter the code below

    <pre></table></table><table><tr><td>
    <div style="overflow:auto;height:300px">
    <div><table></pre>
  4. Publish the blog entry
  5. Preview your space
  6. Done!

Change the 300 in the code to something like 500 so that you get a bigger blog entry module on the front page.

For Example:

<pre></table></table><table><tr><td>
<div style="overflow:auto;height:500px">
<div><table></pre>

Advice:

Keep the Blog entry that you put the code in at the top most position and keep it Empty. Name it something like "Welcome to my Space". When you want to publish more entries. Delete this Dummy or "welcome to my space" entry with the code above and make a new one so it is always in the top most position.

You may choose to use a background Image in your Custom Blog instead of having a transparent background, by using the Code below:

  1. Create a new Blog entry
  2. Click on the HTML button in the blog editing tools

  3. And enter the code below

<pre></table></table><table><table background="Paste The URL Of Your Background Image Here!" height="XXX" width="XXX"><tr><td>
    <div style="overflow:auto;height:300px">
    <div><table></pre>
  4. Replace the parts of the code shown in red with the URL of the image you want to use as your background image, the XXX will determine your images size (height and width) which in turn will determine the size of your blog module and by changing the 300 will determine the size of your scrollbar
  5. Publish the blog entry
  6. Preview your space
  7. Done!

Want 2 Custom HTML/Sandbox Modules?

Want 2 Custom HTML/Sandbox Modules?

Try the following at your Own Risk. I am not responsible if anything goes wrong.

If you do not do it correctly , It may have adverse effects on your space. Adding more than 2 Custom HTML boxes and Media players has been known to cause many problems.

I recommend that You try it on a Back-up/Extra space and use Internet Explorer only.

  • Sign into your MSN Space.
  • Type the following into the IE address bar : http://spaces.msn.com/members/your-space-ID/DLLayoutSettings.aspx
  • Replace the ' your-space-ID ' with your space ID/name.  For e.g. Mine is oskarsroom. So it will be http://spaces.msn.com/members/oskarsroom/DLLayoutSettings.aspx  for me. Then Press the 'Enter key' or click on 'Go' .

  • Now you will see a Customize Layout Page of your space.

  • Click the View tab on the IE menu bar and select Source from the drop down menu that appears.

  • A notepad will open with all kinds of codes that make up your space. (Save a file of this code for future use. Incase you screw your space trying out this tutorial, You can always fall back to the original Code)

  • Now , Search for <br></div></FORM> this mess. [Tip : Press Ctrl + F and type in <br></div></FORM> to search]
  • After you have found it. Include the code below , in between <br></div> and </FORM> tags :

<div class=Part><input onclick='selectPartType(this);' type='checkbox' title='This is an unsupported module supplied for the purpose of evaluation.' id='CustomHTML' name='PowerToy: Custom HTML' value='CustomHTML'><label for='pCustomHTML'>PowerToy: Custom HTML</label> <br></div>

  • This code will give you an extra HTML module. Add this code once only if you already have a Custom HTML 'Sandbox' Module, so you end up with 2 of them. Or Add it as many times to get that many Modules more that you require. Recommendation is 2 modules.
  • After adding the codes save the file using the 'save as' function as shown in the pictures below make sure the file ends in .htm before saving the file:

  • Now open that saved .htm file in another IE window. You will notice there are  2 ☑ Custom HTML PowerToys in the Modules frame or maybe more depending on the number of times that added that code. Check Tick the ☑ [boxes] and you will notice  the Custom HTML PowerToys in the Module Arrangement frame.
  • Click Save !
  • Return to your space on the 'Edit your space' Page. You Shall see the multiple Custom HTML PowerToys. They looks the same, but they are different. The leftmost one is the Mother module, all others are Child modules.

  • Done !

Now Two problems Arise:

  1. There is a link between the Mother [Old module] and the Child [New module].

  2. You cannot edit your modules from the Customize >> module Tab.

Solution to Problem 1:

The Child module Module(s) will have the same Code or content as the Mother Module. You cannot change the content of the Child module directly. To overcome this try :

  • Write the code into the Mother Module [This code is what you want in the child or secondary modules] and save it. Then move it to the position you want it to be in and save the layout. [You have to change the layout to get a change in codes]

  • You will notice that this code now comes into the Child module(s) too.

  • After making both the Mother and Child modules with the same content , Put the code of a banner or the content you want in the Mother Module and Click save.

  • You now have a mother and Child module with different content/Codes.

  • Done.

  • Caution :If you change the layout of your space or change the position of your chief module again. All the child module(s )will reset to the code that is present in the Mother module.

Solution to Problem 2:

You cannot change the modules on your space [Add or delete] from the Customize tab as before. To get this feature back, you need to get rid of the multiple PowerToys or Edit the modules From the .htm file you saved or put in http://spaces.msn.com/members/your-space-ID/DLLayoutSettings.aspx like you did before and make the changes.

  • Open the .htm file you saved and Edit the modules and their arrangements from there as you did before.
